July 6th

Summer is here, and the eating is good! I have waited all winter for my favorite snack of tomatoes sliced on good bread with basil leaves and salt. And although the lettuce is over for a few months, a salad of chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, or some fresh coleslaw, is just as cool and refreshing. Customers always comment how much more fun it is to prepare a meal with fresh food – less like cooking and more like a celebration of good-ness! Even my little boy is excited about his daily squash stir-fry, when he enjoys cutting up the different shaped summer squashes into chunks and throwing in as many different herbs as he can pick, then stirring gently in a pan with olive oil and salt until just tender. It’s hard to mess that up.

It is chicken ordering time! The whole chickens from the Wiediger’s Au Naturel Farm are back again this week. These are pasture raised, hormone and antibiotic- free chickens that will be delivered whole, frozen, cleaned out and packaged just as you would buy in a grocery store. If you have more questions about the Wiedigers and their growing practices, you can read about their farm on our “Growers” page. We need your chicken order this week by Tuesday evening, however the chickens will be delivered NEXT Wednesday, July 16th. They are $3.29 a pound, and average four pounds.
